Packing is stressful. Between the worry of forgetting the essentials, the stress of having too much stuff to fit into your too-small-bags and trying to locate the other half of each pair of socks, by the time that you’ve moved back to uni it feels as though you’ve been working for weeks. On top of this stress there’s also the issue of whether what you’ve packed is actually worth the while. With limited space in your already overflowing bags, it’s essential that you pack the right things: useful, eco-friendly and efficient are the words that spring to mind.

Eco-friendly products are those that do not harm the environment in their production, use or disposal. These help to preserve the environment by reducing the amount of pollution that is created in any of these three areas of the product’s life. But on top of your already busy schedule it’s difficult to hunt around for the alarm clock with the lowest carbon footprint, I know. So to make life a little bit easier I’ve compiled a list of my 5 favourite eco-friendly products for all students. You can thank me later!

Reusable Water Bottles

Buying bottled water is both expensive and bad for the environment. On a student budget it’s much cheaper to simply buy a refillable water bottle and go from there. Not only does this produce much less waste but you can buy water bottles that filter out your water too. As only 27% of plastic bottles are recycled, we need to change our water consumption habits now. My personal favourite is the Jerry bottle which uses recycled materials and gives 100% of its profit to charity. Buy this and you’re doing good deeds with every sip: http://jerrybottle.com/

Reusable Coffee Cups

But water isn’t your only sin. Coffee cups are responsible for a lot of waste. When you’re fuelling your early morning lectures or late night essay crises, then coffee is often a must. Buy yourself a cool new coffee cup to stylishly clutch as you rush to your 9am. These can be refilled whenever you want, and most coffee shops are more than willing to pour your morning fix into it. Onya provide completely recycled coffee cups in a variety of cute colours. Coffee has never been more stylish. Check it out here:

Recycled Ballpoint Pens

Water bottles are one of the top contributors to world pollution. Now that you’ve bought your brand new reusable bottle you might be worrying that you can no longer help the water bottle cause. Well fret no longer, because the solution is here! You can show your support by removing some of those bottles from landfills by purchasing these ballpoint pens from Pilot. Is there a better way to clear your conscience whilst you procrastinate from doing your essays? I think not.

Eco Touch Screen Computers

If you procrastinate by browsing the web instead, then I have the solution for you too. With Lamenco’s eco-friendly touch screen computer you can procrastinate in a more eco-friendly way. This computer has a carbon footprint that is 70% lower than the average personal computer and is the first computer of it’s kind to in the EU Eco Flower certification. Dreams really do come true.

Solar Powered Speaker

Even music can be eco-friendly. Instead of using any old speaker, you can now use a solar powered speaker! For every 10 minutes of sun that it gets, you can listen to 30 minutes of music. It even connects to your phone via Bluetooth. You can be the life of the party whilst saving the planet too. Have a look here!
