The Events Director leads the work in managing, organising and running the weekly OCS events. This involves:
Researching topics and speakers
Considering diverse ranges of types of events: seminars, debates, workshops, panel discussions
Coordinating collaborations with other societies and other OCS sub-teams
Ensuring speakers invites are sent and confirmed in time
Creating events posters and descriptions
Leading events promotion
Logistical planning and management of the events themselves
We are hoping to transition to a hybrid format this year with some events held in-person and others online. The online events enable us to host leaders in the climate change field from all around the world! So this is a great role if you enjoy engaging with world leading experts and activists! The in-person ones are a great way to build a community of sustainability-minded students and town members. We are always looking to further develop and diversify our range of event themes and formats, so this role also gives you many opportunities to realise your own ideas.
We are looking for someone who can dedicate significant time and energy to this role. The ideal skills we are looking for are:
Strong organisational skills, particularly in managing communications and logistics of multiple events
Excellent communication and writing skills in contacting speakers and writing event descriptions
Great events promotion skills - creating and managing facebook and eventbrite events, sharing events through OCS networks, increasing the global reach of our events
Good speaking ability - opportunities to moderate live events
Basic design skills to make events posters, some Canva experience is desirable (look at past OCS events posters for reference)
Ability to work very well in a team towards a collective goal, and ability to adapt quickly to changing circumstances. Things often change last minute!
We encourage applicants from all backgrounds and disciplines. We are looking for anyone with an enthusiasm and passion for creating high impact climate change events throughout the year.
