Everyday fossil-fuel involvement at the University of Oxford

Oxford Climate Society (OCS) and Oxford Climate Justice Campaign (OCJC) are jointly running a campaign to establish how much influence fossil-fuel companies have through the information which is circulated to Oxford University students on a day-to-day basis. This information could potentially have a big impact in forcing the University to change its policies.

Earlier this year, OCJC published a forensic report into fossil-fuel company ties to Oxford, covering donations, research funding, and sponsorship of academics and students. The report described this as a 'revolving door' between fossil-fuel companies and Oxford which the University actively perpetuates.

However, the report did not capture the more ephemeral but equally pervasive influence of fossil-fuel companies through careers advertising, events, and Departmental mailing lists. We now want to investigate the revolving door in terms of the information which Departments and Colleges distribute from fossil-fuel companies to students and researchers.

We need your help to track this information down. We are particularly interested in:
  • Emails you have received about or from fossil-fuel companies, circulated by your Department and/or College
  • Any sponsorship of materials (such as books, formula booklets, lab equipment) or events
  • Any Departmental or College talks platforming fossil-fuel companies

(We would be grateful if you could upload screenshots, so it may be easiest to complete this form on a device other than a phone.)

The form is anonymous by default, but we have provided space at the bottom for you to add your name if you would like to speak with us further, off-the-record or on-the-record.

Thank you!
