Michaelmas 2019 recruitment!
The science on climate change is clear, but not enough people are listening.
Making the conversation about climate change louder is therefore vital for action to be taken. As part of one of the leading educational institutions in the world we are in a position to make a difference to this conversation. 2019 has been an exciting year for climate activism with 'Greta' and 'Extinction Rebellion' on everyone's lips. It is crucial that momentum continues to build and YOU can help achieve this by applying to write for the OCS blog!
Through the OCS blog we aim to inform and inspire people to act by bringing summaries and analysis of the latest developments in climate policy and science so that the climate crisis is recognised.
This year blog posts will be split into 3 sections and we want 3 people to write for each. We also welcome individual blog posts when inspiration hits you! You don't have to study any particular degree, just be enthusaiastic about climate action.
Those chosen to fill the 9 roles will meet with the Publicity and Publications co-ordinator once a fortnight to discuss ideas and plan for upcoming blog posts making it a good way to meet others equally passionate about the environment from across a range of degrees.
1) Event summaries
Attending 2 OCS events per term and writing up a summary and for those unable to attend.
This is a great way of making discussions and talks by expert speakers accessible to those unable to attend. These summaries allow us to extend our reach to the many subscribers not local to Oxford who are enthusiastic about the work of OCS.
see example post here:
2) "What you need to know about...X..."
Most people have a blurry understanding of climate change keywords, concepts and developments but aren't informed enough to use them to make a compelling case for climate action. For example many have heard about carbon capture and storage but are unsure of how it works or its implications for climate change. We therefore want to clarify these words and concepts so that people who care about the environment have the confidence to use them to argue for climate action!
3) Reports and analysis of climate change in the news
This section of the blog will provide updates on the latest climate change related news. This is key to maintaining a global awareness of climate change which is already having devastating effects in other parts of the world. We would also encourage you to use this as an opportunity to voice personal reflections on the developments you share in the post.
