Student Research Showcase

An interdisciplinary showcase for the diverse environmental research conducted by the students of Oxford university

Summary

Oxford Climate Society are dedicated to fighting climate change, and contributing toward building a sustainable, healthy, prosperous planet long into the future. We do this by inspiring, educating, and connecting the climate leaders of the future.

Towards this end, we are excited to announce our second Interdisciplinary Student Research Showcase, in conjunction with Oxford India Centre for Sustainable Development!
If you’ve been involved with an environmental or climate related project, we’re looking for you to come and exhibit or give a presentation about it!

This event will connect students involved with environmental research, providing a platform to present projects, and inspire others about the rich potential of graduate, masters and summer research in the environmental sector. The showcase will be both interdepartmental and interdisciplinary and aims to celebrate the full gamut of environmental thought and research; from science to fine art, philosophy to economics, engineering to literature, and beyond.

We are aiming to grow exposure for all the faces of environmental research, to stimulate diverse discussion of research, to facilitate potential collaboration opportunities, and lower the silo walls between departments and knowledge-methods at the student level.

Format

The event will happen on Monday 6th Week (18th November) at 7pm.

Students will be selected (based on their application) to each give a spoken presentation for 10 minutes, followed by 5 minutes for questions.

After the talks are concluded (around 8.30pm) we will host a networking reception in our exhibition space.

All students who apply are invited to present a poster/equivalent of their project in the exhibition space.

Attendance for those not presenting or exhibiting is open to the public, and entirely free.

Apply to present
or exhibit

Applications are welcome from students at any stage at Oxford University (eg. undergraduate and postgraduate) and from any department and discipline, who have conducted a project in an environment-related topic.

Projects can be degree or non-degree related (eg Master projects, DPhil papers, summer research projects, internships), and need not have been completed or published to be considered; ongoing projects and open questions are just as welcome!

The deadline for registering a spoken presentation is
Tuesday 5th Week, (before the end of 11th November), and for presenting a poster is Monday 6th week (any time before the event). If you need special arrangements (eg for installing an art work) the please let us know in your application.

Applications are submitted using our online form, in which we ask that you provide a short abstract (<300 words) for your intended presentation.

If you are interested in taking part in the showcase, and have any questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch with us!

As with all our events, participation in the showcase is completely free.
