Join the OCS Committee

Become Part of The Team That's Shaping the Society

Ways to get involved

There are three main ways for joining the OCS Committee: You can apply for an appointed position at the beginning of Michaelmas term, you can run for an elected committee position in the Society elections at the end of Hilary term, or you can always approach us with your own project idea. You can find out more about each option below.

Apply for an appointed position

Every year at the beginning of Michaelmas term, a limited number of specialised positions within the OCS executive are opened up for applications. If selected, applicants will become Appointed Officers of the Society, tasked with supporting the elected committee on specific tasks. Appointed Officers are generally appointed until the end of the next Hilary term.

Applications for Michaelmas 2018 have now closed. If you want to get involved at this point and have not applied, please consider one of the options below.

Join our Media and Research Team

We are always looking for people to join our Media and Research Team!
You can read more about these opportunities here: Join our Media Team

Run in the Society elections

Society elections are held at our Annual General Meeting which takes place in the second half of every Hilary term. Anyone can run for any position on the elected committee (though previous experience, e.g. as an Appointed Officer, is of course an advantage). The newly elected Committee serves from Trinity Term to the end of Hilary term.

More information about the next elections and how to run in them will be published in the first half of the next Hilary term. Please get in touch with us if you should have any questions in the meantime.

Pitch your own idea!

We're always looking for exciting new project ideas that can advance the climate debate and climate action in and beyond Oxford. If you have an idea for a project, or a single event, or a campaign, or anything else, please send us an email describing your idea! Our experienced committee members would love to discuss it with you; if your idea can be realised by OCS, you will be able to join our team, receive support and knowledge from our campaigns team and committee, and also be able to recruit your own team if necessary.

Great examples for past ideas that were pitched and then realised within OCS are the Oxford School of Climate Change, a successful and unique high-quality seminar series on all things climate, or Anthroposphere, the world's leading student journal on climate issues. Your idea could be the next success!
